Tri-County Electric Cooperative employees across the organization continue working extended hours following a severe weather outbreak Saturday night that produced multiple confirmed tornadoes across North Texas, including in and around Runaway Bay, Springtown, Azle, and surrounding areas of Parker County.
The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-2 tornado with peak winds of approximately 135 mph struck Runaway Bay. A separate EF-1 tornado with winds up to 105 mph hit near Springtown in Parker County. A long-track storm also prompted a Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) warning near Azle around 10:14 PM Saturday, April 25. The storms caused widespread structural damage to homes and property, downed trees and power lines, and blocked roads throughout the region.
Local authorities have reported fatalities associated with the storm event. TCEC extends its deepest condolences to the families and communities affected.
At the height of the storms, approximately 13,000 members lost power. As of Monday morning, roughly 4,600 members remain without service.
Damage assessment has continued throughout the weekend, with additional issues identified as access improves. Debris and blocked roads have slowed progress in some areas, and the work required to restore service remains extensive. Members with active outages should continue to prepare for extended restoration times.
Restoration efforts involve a coordinated response across the Cooperative. Employees in the field, system operations, engineering, communications, logistics, and other support roles have all contributed—many working extended hours, and in some cases shifting away from their regular responsibilities to focus fully on restoration support. Much of this work happens behind the scenes to keep efforts moving safely and efficiently. Mutual aid support from other electric cooperatives and contractor resources are also on-site assisting with restoration.
Safety remains the top priority for employees, members, and the public as work continues.
