Tri-County Electric Cooperative (TCEC) has enhanced its Energy Efficiency Rebate Program to offer even greater value to members—without adding a single penny to their electric bills.
As part of the improved program, the rebate for HVAC tune-ups has increased from $75 to $125 to encourage members to take advantage of this opportunity and improve their energy efficiency ahead of the summer heat. Regular HVAC maintenance can help systems run more efficiently, keeping homes cooler and lowering energy costs.
In addition, the program still includes a $50 rebate for the purchase of ENERGY STAR® appliances, encouraging members to invest in energy-efficient upgrades for their homes. Both rebates apply to purchases or services completed on or after January 1, 2025.
The Energy Efficiency Rebate Program is funded entirely through unclaimed capital credit checks that have gone uncashed for more than three years. Under Texas law, electric cooperatives like TCEC can repurpose a portion of these funds for specific uses, including energy efficiency. If not used locally, these dollars would be transferred to the state’s general fund. By reinvesting them, TCEC puts the money back into the community.
A total of $250,000 has been allocated for this pilot program, and rebate funds are limited. The program will conclude for the year once all funds have been distributed.
